Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Ohio’s mission is to raise awareness among women, healthcare providers, and the greater community regarding early warning signs that may be indicative of ovarian cancer, resulting in earlier detection and improved outcomes; to provide resources for support, networking, and education for women with ovarian cancer, their families, and their caregivers to ensure no woman with this disease feels she is alone; to advocate for those touched by ovarian cancer, ensuring their stories have a voice and are heard in the battle to beat this disease; to raise funds locally to further our mission and support national ovarian cancer organizations.

Our mission is to raise awareness and provide education about ovarian cancer.  OCASO is committed to improving the quality of life of survivors by helping to fund research and by providing local programming.  Our vision is to reach every woman in the Miami Valley informing them that they are at risk of ovarian cancer and arming them with the knowledge needed to recognize the early warning signs of ovarian cancer.  Our goals are providing support, net-working and education while supporting research funding for early detection and new treatments resulting in the ultimate – A CURE.   We also bring ovarian cancer survivors into the local medical and nursing school community to share their personal experiences living with ovarian cancer.  Putting a face to the disease.

The Cancer Awareness Team for Ovarian Cancer is an offshoot of a hospital support group for ovarian cancer survivors. Its purpose is to promote the education and awareness of the general public and health professionals. It has partnered with the local hospital for two years in the Sawan OVCA walk-run. Most recently, it has published a survivorship calendar entitled “Women Fighting Cancer Surviving and Thriving.”

ROAR!’s primary goal is to empower women to know the symptoms of ovarian cancer, to listen to their body’s signals and to seek immediate medical treatment if they are experiencing these symptoms for a prolonged period of time. ROAR! has qualified speakers that will address any civic or faith-based group with a 30 minute slide presentation, testimonials and awareness materials. It is also committed to supporting a cooperative effort among the York primary care physicians, OB/GYN’s and gynecologic oncologists.

The goals of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation are to provide public awareness and education about ovarian cancer to both women and physicians, to advocate for early diagnostic testing and more effective treatments and to raise money to help advance research towards a cure. The organization has a speaker’s forum, participates in health fairs, holds an annual gala and walk/run, works with local legislative representatives and supports researchers in the Philadelphia region.

The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research was founded in 1994 by Dr. Rivkin, an oncologist at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, in memory of his wife of 29 years, Marsha, and in recognition of the ongoing fight against this deadly disease. The Center’s mission is to save lives and reduce suffering through improved treatment, early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer. The Center initiates scientific breakthroughs by establishing collaborations with the best and brightest minds both locally and globally, providing funding to promising ovarian cancer research programs and supporting the efforts of early detection.

The Pacific Ovarian Cancer Research Consortium (POCRC) is a community based, multidisciplinary, translational research program composed of clinicians and scientists from the Pacific Northwest, with the primary goal of improving ovarian cancer outcomes. POCRC advocates play an essential role in the POCRC and consist of ovarian cancer survivors, family members or anyone whose life has been affected by ovarian cancer. The mission of the POCRC is to serve as a bridge between the overall scientific program of the POCRC and the community so that the program works towards meeting the needs of the patient. Advocates serve side by side with researchers and bring the patient’s voice and experience into the research setting. Advocates attend monthly scientific seminars; participate in grant review and review recruitment materials and protocol design.

WOCA’s mission is to create awareness among all Wisconsin women with ovarian cancer of early and subtle warning signs. In addition, it provides networking and support for all ovarian cancer survivors and their families. One of its major goals is educating and working with medical professionals through education sessions. WOCA also works with national and local ovarian cancer advocates to get increased federal funding for continued research.
