grassroots leaders advancing the interests of women with ovarian cancer
Thank you for your interest in the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s Grasstops program. Our Grasstops are leaders in their communities who advance the interests of women with ovarian cancer at all levels of government. In 2013, 20 dedicated advocates across the country connected with their legislators and fought for critical research funding and awareness. These individuals have become the “go-to” people for ovarian cancer related issues. This program is open to any person who seeks to advance the interests of women with ovarian cancer at the federal level. No experience is necessary.
As a Grasstop you will receive training through webinars and conference calls on the basics of advocacy and policy making process. You will learn how to be an effective advocate and have your voice heard. The Alliance will work with you to increase your understanding of the public policy issues important to the ovarian cancer community and current happenings on Capitol Hill. Following training, the Alliance will periodically issue Calls to Action and provide instructions and support to carry out specific tasks such as meetings in your community with the staff of elected officials to discuss pending legislation or request co-sponsorship.
We are looking for committed individuals who will support the mission of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance by working with their elected officials to increase co sponsorship and appropriations levels of ovarian cancer related legislation. The 2014 program will be comprised of 40 specially selected individuals based on their elected official’s committee assignments and their ability to commit to the mission. Grasstops will complete an action plan for the calendar year which will outline their goals within the program and proposed tasks. See below for additional requirements.
If you would like to join the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s Grasstop program, please complete and submit the online application. Applications for the 2014 program are due December 13, 2013. Grasstops will be chosen following Congressional Committee assignments in January. Please note, this is a two-year commitment with the option to re-apply at the end of your term.
If you have any questions please contact Alison Silberman, Director of Field Engagement, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance is a non partisan organization and does not endorse candidates or parties. The Alliance is looking for a bi-partisan mix of advocates.
