Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Kicks off Yearlong
Joan Kidd, MD Ovarian Cancer Awareness Cup

The Awareness Cup will use the New VIE Sports’ Fundraising Technology to create a
one-of-a-kind six-month, worldwide charity golf tournament.

Washington, DC– The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance has joined forces with VIE Sports Inc. to launch the Joan Kidd MD Ovarian Cancer Awareness Cup. The Awareness Cup is an online virtual golf tournament allowing golfers from across the country to compete for a chance at playing in the 2015 finals at Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic. The tournament kicked off on March 27 at the Ovarian Cancer Pro Am, part of the LPGA Symetra Tour. All proceeds from the Awareness Cup benefit the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.  Golfers can register at  Entry fee for single golfers is $10 and for mixed teams $20.

The tournament was inspired by Joan Kidd, MD who is an avid golfer with her husband Tom.  “Experiencing the impact of this disease personally, as a two-time ovarian cancer survivor, and professionally, as a physician, I feel a close and personal understanding of how devastating this disease can be.  It has also shown me there is a great need to increase public awareness, promote early detection and support families touched by this cancer.  I am proud to work with the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to help achieve these goals, and as a golfing enthusiast, I can’t think of a better way to achieve this! Special thanks go to my loving and unendingly supportive husband, Tom Kidd, for organizing this tournament,” said Kidd.

This years’ event will use VIE Sports’ new Real-to-Virtual (R2V)™ competition platform allowing golfers to play any course, worldwide, at any time this year from until November 15, to qualify for the Awareness Cup finals at Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic May 2015. By playing a real round of golf and posting their score (scores are normalized for course difficulty) men, women and mixed-teams can win their way to play in the inaugural Low Net Championship. Golfers are encouraged to invite their friends to play and support the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance with a donation as well. The VIE Sports’ R2V™ technology provides this fundraising event with a truly global outreach.

Funds raised by the Joan Kidd, MD Ovarian Cancer Awareness Cup will go to the organization’s mission of supporting women and men who are affected by ovarian cancer. The Alliance serves as a voice for this community, educates the public about this deadly disease and provides support services to women who are diagnosed.

“Our desire to enhance the opportunities of those who strive to Do Good in this world and supporting a greater cause drives our team in business and in life. We are inspired by organizations like the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and events like the Joan Kidd, MD Ovarian Cancer Awareness Cup, says Terry Shanley, VP Business Development, VIE Sports, Inc. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with such a great organization to advance the interests of women with ovarian cancer.”
