Due to the current crisis in Washington regarding the budget, appropriations and debt ceiling, federal funding for cancer research is in jeopardy. Due to the sequester, cancer research may take a 6.4% cut for this fiscal year. Additionally, these cuts, along with the uncertainty of continued federal research funds, makes the field of cancer research less stable and therefore less attractive.
