Each year, the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance partners with select companies on special promotions that increase awareness of ovarian cancer and raise funds to support our programs. Here are a few ways you can support women with ovarian cancer during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September.
Miss USA 2012 Olivia Culpo, a keynote speaker at the Alliance’s Annual Conference in July, will wear teal on September 7 and share facts about the disease on social media throughout the month. In addition, Miss USA will promote a partnership between the Alliance and Same Sky, a trade-not-aid initiative that employs HIV-positive Rwandan and Zambian women to craft beaded necklaces and bracelets. Same Sky will donate 10 percent of September sales from its teal bracelets to the Alliance. Miss USA modeled many of these bracelets in a special ovarian cancer themed photo shoot with Same Sky, which will go live on September 1 at www.samesky.com.
The acclaimed bakery Georgetown Cupcake will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from sales of “Teal Velvet” cupcakes to the Alliance throughout the month of September. Teal Velvet cupcakes can be purchased at any Georgetown Cupcake store, or ordered by the dozen online and picked up or shipped anywhere in the United States. Also in September, Le Marais Chocolat will donate 10 percent of the purchase price for special boxes of handmade chocolate truffles to the Alliance.
For the second year, the Alliance is collaborating with Avon Books on K.I.S.S. and Teal, an awareness campaign that urges romance readers to Know the Important Signs and Symptoms of ovarian cancer. All seven titles released by Avon in September 2012 will include a teal ribbon on the cover and information about ovarian cancer.
