The Cancer Genome Atlas presents initial results on ovarian cancer
Earlier this week, research related to the genetics of ovarian cancer was released. The data show that there is an enormous about of genetic variation between ovarian cancers, unlike some other cancer sites. However, the study also found that a mutation in the TP53 gene – a tumor suppressor gene – was present in 96 percent of ovarian cancers. Researchers identified 108 genes that predict poor survival and 85 genes that predict better survival.
The study is funded by the National Insitutes of Health.
