Seven-time Olympic medalist Shannon Miller will be the keynote speaker at the 2011 Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Annual Conference. In February 2011, Ms. Miller revealed that she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She is blogging about her treatment on her healthy living website www.shannonmillerlifestyle.com.
A former gymnast, Ms. Miller has won more medals than any other American gymnast, male or female. At the 1992 Olympics, she won more medals (two silver and three bronze) than any other American athlete. After retiring as an athlete, she provided television commentary for NBC, ABC, Comcast and MSNBC.
In addition to her broadcasting and spokesperson duties, Ms. Miller hosts her own radio show, has written a series of fitness books and cookbooks, and filmed her Fit Pregnancy and Body After Baby DVDs.
After battling with her own weight and confidence after retiring from Olympic competition Ms. Miller has made it her mission to help other women achieve a healthy and fit lifestyle. In 2011, after being diagnosed with a germ cell tumor, she became a passionate advocate for women to get their regular exams and screenings. Early detection save lives. She is writing regularly about ovarian cancer and her path through treatment on her personal blog, My Journey.
