Olivia Everett Eau Claire, WI

My sister Olivia and I only met two years ago – we share the same Dad. Once we connected, we became fast and furious friends – and truly “sisters”. We’ve shared vacations and holidays together and lots of laughs – my children adore her. Last year, at age 41 I was diagnosed with a borderline serous ovarian tumor and underwent two operations. Olivia was the first to offer to be with me if need be. My latest tests indicate I am fine, but 53 weeks to the day that I had my major surgery at Mayo Clinic – Olivia (age 32) underwent surgery to remove her right ovary. She was also 17 weeks pregnant. The tumor they removed was bigger than a football. It was also malignant – an exceptionally rare, small cell carcinoma stroma tumor, stage 1c. Less than 1% off all ovarian cancers are this type – did I mention she was pregnant?

She received her diagnosis on April 29th and on May 7 begins her first round of chemotherapy – she is already my complete and total hero as she faces this trial with her exceptional husband Eric. She will be strong and is living for this baby and has incredible strength and grace. This disease is so insidious, horrible, silent and fast moving – there must be so much more done to find a cure. If you could please send her good thoughts, prayers or karma it would be most appreciated. She is already the best mother – and her child will be blessed to call her “Mommy”.

Happy first Mother’s Day Olivia.
