Ovarian cancer spread missed when recommended staging biopsies not performed, UC Davis researchers find

UC Davis researchers have found that “[m]ore than a quarter of women with apparent early ovarian cancer do not receive the lymph node biopsies proven to improve patient survival”.  Their analysis of more than 700 ovarian cancer patients in New York and Florida showed that only 72 percent of women had the appropriate staging surgery, and that women with early stage disease who had staging surgery had higher survival rates than thos who didn’t.
