Preventive Services Guidelines released

The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance was invited to attend a small event where the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) unveiled new preventive services guidelines. Under the guidelines, new insurance plans will cover numerous preventive screenings and services, including

• Colonoscopies
• HPV vaccination
• BRCA counseling
• Mammography
• Breast cancer chemoprevention counseling

These services will be free of charge (no co-pay) under new plans beginning on or after September 23, 2010.

Beginning next year, Medicare beneficiaries will receive preventive services free of co-pay and will receive a free annual wellness exam. See more about Medicare benefits here.

Specific guidelines on women’s health services will be released in August.
